Cathy Esposito
Rank: 5th Degree Black Belt
Sensei Cathy Esposito, Chief Instructor of the Children's Karate Program, has trained for over 20 years at Esposito's. She was a Sport Karate competitor for 10 years and has won the United States Women's Karate Championship in Forms, Sparring and Weapons.

Sensei Cathy has taught numerous women's self-defense classes at local colleges including Harvard University and Boston College. Currently, she teaches a Moms' Karate/Women's Self Defense class on Tuesday mornings.


Mike Wolfe
Rank: 4th Degree Black Belt
Sensei Mike started his martial arts career 30 years ago because of the (Mind, Body, Spirit) exercise, discipline and detail surrounding the techniques and sparring involved in the study of martial arts. Sensei Mike has spent the last 28 years studying under Grandmaster Esposito and has been an instructor here for the last 17 years.

In his professional life, Sensei Mike is a Diagnostic Imaging and Cancer Nuclear Medicine Technologist/Manager. He has been in this field for over 25 years.

In his personal time, Sensei Mike has been coaching soccer for the past 20 years. He also pursues his other interests, playing Ice Hockey and Golf.


Dave Coolidge
Rank: 2nd Degree Black Belt
Sensei Dave has studied Kenpo at Esposito's Academy of Self-Defense for over 18 years. He has attained the rank of second degree black belt and is an instructor in the adult program.

Outside of the dojo, Sensei Dave is an accomplished construction manager and estimator with a long background in the industry including attaining journeyman status as a carpenter and sheet metal mechanic. He also earned a Bachelor's Degree in Architecture during the evenings at the Boston Architectural Center.


Patrick Houle
Rank: 2nd Degree Black Belt
Sensei Houle began martial arts at the age of 15, where he studied Shito-Ryu under Sensei Crawley in Holyoke, Mass. From the very beginning, he was attracted to the self-discipline and strong moral foundation of the martial arts. He received his 3rd degree brown belt before moving on to attend the University of Vermont. During college Sensei Houle studied Judo and White Tiger Kung Fu. Between 1986 and 1988, Sensei Houle lived and studied in Freiburg, Germany. During this time, he studied Tai Chi with Sifu Georg Muster.

After graduating from the University of Vermont with degrees in Chemistry and German, Sensei Houle began studying martial arts with Grandmaster Joe Esposito in January 1990. Between 1991 and 1993, Sensei Houle lived and worked in Niigata, Japan where he worked as a research chemist. During his stay in Japan, he studied Aikido at the Niigata Sports Club.

In December 1997, Sensei Houle received his first degree black belt from Grand Master Esposito, followed by his second degree black belt in September of 2004. Sensei Houle is currently an active teacher and student of the Esposito's Academy of Self Defense.


Rob Smith

Sensei Rob started his martial arts career over 20 years ago and has been an instructor for the past 12 years. He started learning the martial arts because he was fascinated with what he saw on TV and in the movies as a kid. He has always loved the focus on the mental and spiritual development that the martial arts offers - which is never taught to the same degree in any traditional sport training systems.

Sensei Rob is a consulting psychologist and certified sport psychologist who also provides training to individuals and organizations on how to perform their best. Sensei Rob is listed on the U.S. Olympic Training Center's Sport Psychology Registry and has spoken internationally on various topics concerning sport psychology.

Sensei Rob has written many articles for professional journals, newspapers and magazines and has also co-authored a chapter in a popular sport psychology textbook. Sensei Rob has just recently published his first book entitled, "Black Belt For Life: A Memoir of Personal Development and the Martial Arts".

Rich Quinn

Rich Quinn is Esposito's most recent black belt. He has been studying under Grandmaster Esposito for over 7 years and has been teaching for the last 3. In addition to Kenpo, Rich currently studies Boxing and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.


Jenn Carl
Rank: Brown/Black
Intrigued by martial arts history and its ability to help develop self-esteem, self-discipline and control over one's body and mind, Jenn began studying Kenpo Karate through the encouragement of Grandmaster Joe Esposito over 6 years ago. She takes great pleasure as a mentor and teacher in the Kids Karate Program and has been an instructor for 4 years. Jenn works full time in the medical sales industry and is also a personal trainer at Esposito's.
